Success as a Private Caregiver
Posted in Articles, Finding a Caregiving Job on December 22nd, 2009 | 0 CommentsAs a private caregiver, you should have a formal conversation with the patient every week to discuss what is going well and what needs improvement. Frequently communicating with the patient is a great way to ensure the success of your relationship. You and your patient will feel more comfortable asking questions and expressing any concerns to each other. If a problem does not get addressed, it will probably continue and could possibly get worse. Open communication with the patient will prevent any unnecessary stress. You should only agree to things that you are comfortable with. For example, if you do not want to work overnight shifts, be honest with the patient. During the weekly conversations, write down what is being discussed and make sure you understand what is expected of you.
Give yourself a trial period. If you feel that the line of communication you have with the patient is not effective after the trial period, you may wish to start looking for a different job. Make sure you give the patient notice before making any decisions.
